buffed.de: Where does the game take place and how does it relate to the tv-series?
Dan Elggren: The game takes place between the end of season eight of Stargate SG-1 and the beginning of season nine. As fans of the series know, this time frame is left undefined by the show writers. It’s the period between the conclusion of the Goa’uld story arc and the arrival of the Ori; the members of SG-1 are taking a well-deserved break and there’s a chance to explore other stories.
From a storytelling point of view, this is the perfect place to drop our game. This is the time for SG-2 and the other teams that have labored in SG-1’s considerable shadow to become the heroes of the show. The members of SG-1 have a role to play in Stargate Worlds, but in general they are operating behind the scenes.
buffed.de: Will players be able to visit Atlantis?
Dan Elggren: At launch, we’re focusing on the Milky Way galaxy, so no, players won’t be visiting Atlantis. However, we think Atlantis and the Pegasus galaxy are a great gate destination for an expansion pack.

For those not familiar with the show, Stargate Command (SGC) is a division of the U.S. Air Force and has U.S. Marines and soldiers from other nationalities as well working out of a secret facility below Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado. The SGC operates the Earth’s Stargate, a portal that opens a stable wormhole to other planets with Stargates. On their initial investigations through the gate, the SGC encountered the Jaffa and their Goa’uld overlords.
The Asgard are classic grey aliens, technologically advanced and benevolent. The Asgard use their technology to oppose the Goa’uld in their schemes to dominate the galaxy. Many Asgard try to avoid open conflict, but some Asgard work with the humans of the SGC to more directly confront the Goa’uld. Asgard ships are the most powerful force in the Milky Way
The Jaffa are a warrior race who have served the Goa’uld for thousands of years. The Jaffa are powerful fighters who are immune to poison and disease thanks the Goa’uld symbiote they carry in an abdominal pouch. In the time that Stargate Worlds is set, the Jaffa have splintered into two factions, the Free Jaffa who have rebelled against the Goa’uld, and the Loyal Jaffa, who remain in the service of their Goa’uld masters.
The Goa’uld are snake like symbiotes that control their host by burrowing through the neck and taking over the brain. The Goa’uld are scavengers with access to advanced technology. In Stargate SG-1, the Goa’uld were the ancient gods of earth. Led by the sun god Ra, the Goa’uld dominated the galaxy. But Ra was destroyed by SG-1 and the System Lords were taken down by season eight. The Goa’uld in Stargate Worlds are a new breed who have moved beyond pretending to be a god in favor of a new outlook they feel is better suited to domination of the modern galaxy.
Op-CORE is an outlawed organization of human military and civilian operatives who are fighting for Earth and allied with the Goa’uld and Loyal Jaffa as a matter of convenience. It’s the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” mentality. Op-CORE is willing to do anything to succeed at their goal of safeguarding Earth ... even if it means treason.
