Star Trek Online: Interview mit Craig Zinkevich
Craig Zinkievich
buffed: The klingon system feels a bit like the pvp system in Lord of the Rings Online. It seems you decided that klingon PvE wouldn’t have to be as big as starfleet PvE?
Zinkievich: Well I would say it’s definitely different than the PvP in Lord of the Rings Online. We have many different playable scenarios that people can do in our PvP, and as people get more into the game, they’re realizing there’s a lot more to the Klingon side of things than what you experience with LotRO. With the decision to not give Klingons as much PvE as the Federation side it came down to wanting to give a good gameplay experience. If we rushed out Klingon PvE it wouldn’t have been good. So since this is an MMO we can release more Klingon PvE content and if people want more then we can add more after launch.
buffed: How exactly do your starfleet rank and status influence your first Klingon character?
Zinkievich: Once you get to Level 6 you unlock the ability to play as a Klingon character or one of the races aligned with the Klingons, including a custom race. After that you’ll rank up your Klingon character separate from your federation character. They’re two separate factions at war with each other so your Starfleet rank and status won’t really have an effect on your Klingon character.
Star Trek Online: Klingonen
buffed: How do you progress in the game as a Klingon?
Zinkievich: Mainly through PvP, both against the Federation and against rival Klingon Houses. There are some PvE options available to you, and more on the way, but the main focus for Klingons is PvP right now. Klingons have the same skill tree as Federation players, so there’s quite a bit of choice available to you. They also have their own ship progression and a bit more freedom with how they assign Bridge Officers to their ships.
buffed: Can you tell us more about fleet actions? Is it essential to actually be in a fleet?
Zinkievich: Right now they’re exclusive with retailers. We don’t yet have plans to introduce them to the in-game store.
buffed: There were a lot of different preorder goodies available at various retailers. Will you offer those specials also in the ingame shop system?
Zinkievich: Right now they’re exclusive with retailers. We don’t yet have plans to introduce them to the in-game store.
